After your TotalSkin Solution™️ Facial, the single most important rule is simple: keep your skin cool, clean, and out of the sun for the first 48 hours. This facial combines Genius RF microneedling with Ultra Laser resurfacing in one session, so your skin needs quiet time to settle. In Scottsdale, the desert sun is strong year-round, even on a cool morning, so shade and SPF are not optional. If you do just one thing today, avoid heat, sweat, and direct sun.
0 to 48 hours after your skin facial: the non-negotiables
Think “protect and calm.” Your skin is doing repair work after microneedling and laser, and heat plus friction can drag out redness and slow the glow.
Do this the day of treatment
- Keep your face clean. I generally recommend a gentle, fragrance-free cleanse the evening of treatment or the next morning, depending on how your skin feels.
- Moisture barrier only. Use a soothing moisturizer (and whatever I sent home in your post-treatment kit). The goal is comfort and hydration, not “active” results right now.
- Stay cool. Skip hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and anything that makes your skin flush.
- Hands off. No picking, rubbing, or exfoliating. If you feel roughness, that’s normal as skin renews.
Avoid these for at least 48 hours
- Exercise and heavy sweating. In McDowell Mountain Ranch, that can mean early hikes or a quick round of golf. Give your skin 48 to 72 hours before you sweat hard.
- Makeup. I prefer you wait 24 to 48 hours so pores can stay clear and calm, especially right after microneedling.
- Direct sun. No intentional sun time. If you have to be outside in Scottsdale, use shade, a hat, and SPF.
Quick scheduling tip: If you love outdoor routines (hikes, tennis, midday tee times), plan TotalSkin so your first 2 days are your easiest “stay indoors” days.
Days 3 to 7: what “healing well” looks like, and what can mess it up
Most people feel more comfortable as the week goes on, but this is where I see the biggest aftercare mistakes. Scottsdale sun and “I only did a quick workout” sweat are the usual culprits. You’re protecting collagen work happening under the surface and the smoother texture happening on top.
Keep doing
- Gentle cleanse and moisture barrier. Twice daily is usually enough. More is not better this week.
- Daily broad-spectrum SPF. Apply every morning. Reapply if you’re outside. A hat and shade make a real difference in the desert.
- Simple routines. If your skin is easily reactive, “boring skincare” is a win while you recover.
Keep avoiding
- Retinol and acid exfoliants. I generally want you to pause these for at least a week, and sometimes 7 to 14 days depending on your skin.
- Scrubs, brushes, and aggressive exfoliation. If it “polishes, ” it’s too much right now.
- Waxing and strong facial hair removal. Give your skin time. If you’re unsure about timing, ask me first.
- Pools, hot tubs, and spas. Chlorine, heat, and bacteria are not a good mix with fresh post-laser skin.
The aftercare routine I like most: gentle cleanse, barrier cream, SPF 30 to 50
I’m not trying to overhaul your bathroom right after TotalSkin. I’m trying to protect your results. The safest play is to keep products simple, fragrance-free, and focused on calming.
1) Cleanser
A gentle, non-foaming or low-foam cleanser is usually best. No fragrance. No scrubby beads.
2) Moisturizer
Go for a soothing moisturizer that supports the skin barrier. If I sent you home with a recovery product, stick with that first.
3) Sunscreen
Broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50, every morning. In Scottsdale, I treat SPF like brushing your teeth. Even if it’s cloudy. Even if you’re just driving.
If you’re someone who searches “facials near me” or “skincare clinic near me” because you want real change, aftercare is part of that. It’s not extra credit. It’s how you keep the glow you paid for.
If something feels “off, ” text or call me sooner, not later
A little redness, warmth, and sensitivity is common after microneedling and laser. What I don’t want is you sitting at home wondering if it’s normal. I’m known for being thorough and for answering questions, and I keep that same energy after your appointment too.
Reach out right away if you notice any of the following:
- Increasing pain instead of gradual improvement
- Redness that’s spreading or getting hotter over time
- Blistering
- Fever, chills, or anything that feels like infection

If you’re driving in from Fountain Hills, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, or Paradise Valley for your appointments, keep my number handy. And if you’re planning outdoor time, let me know. I’ll help you time things so your results stay on track. If you’re still deciding on a facial spa near me for microneedling and laser, this is the standard I hold myself to: you never feel rushed, and you never feel on your own after treatment.
A quick refresher on what TotalSkin Solution™️ actually is (and why aftercare matters)
TotalSkin Solution™️ is a 120-minute session that combines two award-winning technologies in one appointment: Genius RF microneedling for deeper collagen support and tightening, plus Ultra Laser resurfacing for tone, texture, and that smoother finish. I start with a consultation and skin assessment, apply topical numbing for comfort, and finish with a soothing recovery mask and red LED light therapy to calm the skin.
Aftercare is what protects all that work. If you keep heat, sweat, and sun away in those first days, you usually see a better, cleaner recovery and a more consistent glow.

TotalSkin facial aftercare FAQs I get every week
How long before I can wear makeup after a TotalSkin Solution™️ Facial?
I like you to wait 24 to 48 hours. Right after microneedling and laser, your skin is more reactive and pores are more vulnerable to congestion. If you have to wear makeup sooner, keep it minimal and tell me what you used so I can guide you.
Can I exercise or go for a hike after a TotalSkin Solution™️ Facial?
I generally recommend no heavy sweating for 48 to 72 hours. That includes Scottsdale hikes and cardio workouts. Heat and sweat can prolong redness and irritation and can make recovery bumpier than it needs to be.
When can I return to my retinol or acid exfoliant after this facial?
Plan on pausing retinol and acids for at least 7 days, and sometimes 7 to 14 days depending on sensitivity and how your skin is healing. If you’re unsure, ask me before restarting. I’d rather you wait a few extra days than irritate fresh skin.
Is swimming in a pool or hot tub safe after a TotalSkin Facial?
I recommend you avoid pools and hot tubs for at least a week. Chlorine, heat, and bacteria can irritate freshly treated skin and increase the risk of a rough recovery.
What sunscreen should I use after a TotalSkin Solution™️ Facial?
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 that feels gentle and non-irritating on you. In the first week, I prefer formulas that don’t sting and don’t have strong fragrance. If you bring me a photo of what you have at home, I’ll tell you if it’s a good fit for post-treatment skin.
